Odd Clips
Like most of you, I enjoy the odd funny video clip that friends send my way. The world of YouTube can be a source of endless amusement - you’ll even find my own clips, ‘I Miss Monica’ and ‘4 More Years’ posted there.
But, now and then, I’ll receive a link, out of the blue, that leaves me completely bemused, flummoxed and dumbfounded. And I figured this is as good a place as any to mention two of ‘em.
videoclip #1: “Company”
This clip was created by 24 year old MusicGuru12 - who actually seems closer in age to 12 than 24 - and it put a big smile on my face. What the clip lacks in action and production values, it makes up for in sheer earnestness and sincerity. See what you think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rf9WIzvqUeI
videoclip #2: “Lydia”
Now, this second clip, well… I just don’t know how to characterize it. It was produced by ‘ twobob’ aka oggy, charlie, dan and jim. I must warn you that some of you may find it disturbing, violent and downright unpleasant - I did. But, at the same time, so much effort obviously went into the setup and production that it’s obvious to me these guys had an enormous amount of fun doing it and I actually found it amusing in a twisted sort of way. Please heed my warning, though, if you are particularly fond of the song ‘Lydia’ and would prefer not to have those musical associations tainted by some very bizarre images, I recommended you skip this clip altogether. But, I figured it was only fair to leave the choice up to you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUazBtb6CbM
And as I mentioned, you’ll also find ‘I Miss Monica’ and ‘4 More Years’ posted on YouTube at the following links:
I Miss Monica: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58U72zwxyJE
4 More Years: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gt2LoEjAc_Q
Anyway, have a great week and enjoy the clips.

I also added my own Parody of a Dean Friedman song, “I am in Love with the McDonald’s Girl” to the U-Tube site. The URL is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r46BP_RGFU
It was performed by five seniors for the entire school in Sedro-Woolley, a town in the Northwest Corner of the state of Washington. Two girls did the choreography and we used the Blender’s version of the song to give it the “boy band” sound. Hope you like it.

First thing. How come the Log In for this Blog is at the bottom of the page. Shouldn’t it be on top?
Dean, I agree with you on all counts (how’s that for a boring blog reply). As I wrote on Dean’s Forum: “I looked at this Lydia video and thought it was dumb. Ill treatment of a beautiful song. Dean, this crap is a good reason why you should make your own videos of songs from your great collection of masterpieces. Not let some loser with a stupid wig overuse kicking, headbutting, and punching to get a giggle during a beautiful song. What was that all about? I thought the sweet boy in the Company video did a better job of miming, at least. (Think he made that for a girl he had a crush on?)”
How can that kid in Company be 24 years old? I have a feeling he is much younger and he is trying to impress the ladies. We, on the other hand, would never try to impress anyone by saying we are older than we are, except the waitress as the local Denny’s, perhaps. I’d write MusicGuru12 and ask me how old he really is, but I don’t want to appear creepy. Dean, can you do me a favor & you write him and you appear creepy? Also, why do I expect at the end of the video that the door in the background is going to open up and his mother’s curler-covered head is going to pop in, whining, “Bobby, if you play that song one more time……”.
Lydia video - I second the motion on your opinion on that one, too. What this beautiful song deserves is a beautiful video. Save the funny treatment for McDonald’s Girl, Ariel, Funny Papers, S & M, The Deli Song, Marginal Middle Class, Hob-Nobbin’, Summer Days, not to mention everything on Squirrels in the Attic. “twobob’ aka oggy, charlie, dan and jim”, there is a banquet of Dean funny songs from which to choose. In fact, anybody want to accept the challenge out there? More Dean videos! Dean, your descriptive lyrics make it so easy to make a video.
PS Indeed, there are some serious songs out there, however, that well deserve parody. Hmmmm, let me think ….You’re Beautiful by James Blount comes to mind (as it did for many video makers, obviously).
PPS Oops, this Comment turned into a Blog itself. Sorry.

Well, all I can say is I luuuuuuve Lydia - one of my favourite Dean songs, but I actually found this video amusing! It didn’t spoil the song for me at all - and if I was Dean, I’d be flattered that someone had gone to the trouble of making a video that’s worth watching. So much of what’s on YouTube can be boooorriiing. And as is always the case on Youtube, if someone gets to hear the song for the first time, they might be inspired to go out and hunt down more of Dean’s songs. Can’t be bad.
For anyone in the UK, I don’t know if it’s just me, but the ‘Dean’ character looks more like one of the Scousers (Harry Enfield), y’know “AY, AY, AY - CAAAAAALM DOWN, CAAAALM DOWN!!!”

To Nancy and Dean,
I am not sure if this blog site is still active, or if it has been abandoned but I will post this anyway.
This is MusicGuru12 speaking, the boy from YouTube who did a cover of Company. Firstly, I am glad it brought a smile to your face Dean and secondly, I am actually 15 years old, not 24, and I wouldn’t have found it creepy if you asked me how old I am. I get it alot.
And for the sake of Nancy, I am not trying to impress any ladies, my name is not bobby and my mum naturally has curly hair.
I have removed the video from YouTube now, and instead I have a site dedicated to teaching blues to people. If you are interested in seeing how I am doing go to:

Thanks, and I am glad to have a mention in your blog.
Ben
