Welcome to the blogsphere Dean and thanks for those reminiscences.

Weird for me to hear about your listening to tracks from Mingus when that album and your first two were in my collection at that time (and for that matter still very much are).

I'd love to hear a lot more of the Deano backstory, particularly the inspriations for the songs on the first two albums.

Hey! Welcome to the world of blogging, and thank you for not opting for an annoying MySpace blog.

Nice writing, and thank you for giving me another musician whose work I should hunt down.

I attended College from 1976 till... at SUNY New Paltz, and worked in "Po" town, I worked with the local volunteer ambulance corp (Way on the other side of the Hudson..)At the time, I did go to see some concerts in Po town, but many acts came to us as well. I remember the first one that I went to was Harry Chapin. It is too bad I missed your concert.

Sugar sandwiches - that takes me back to my childhood!

Dean, next time you come to UK can you try and get a gig in Norwich - the Arts Centre is a great venue - an old church with great atmosphere. How do you pronounce Poughkeepsie???

<blockquote>"I flashed back to a gig I played there, almost 30 years ago, standing alone on the stage, picking my D-35 acoustic, blinded by stage lights, but able to hear and feel the audience tucked tightly around me in an intimate semi-circle."</blockquote>

Ah, I remember it well! Yes, I was there in audience! I came back stage to see if you remembered me from Gordon Drive, in Paramus. You finally put me together with the "Hart"'s and "bread, butter and sugar sandwiches". How neat to go back so many years later with your son!

Thanks for sharing Dean - it'd be interesting to compare the two third albums side by side!

Awesome story, Dean. I, of course, would love to know what became of those aborted Rob Stevens sessions. Are there tapes anywhere? Did they revert back to Lifesong and Cashman/West, or are they yours? Would REALLY love to hear that aborted third album!

I'd also really love to know the inside dirt on what REALLY happened with Lifesong. I had always liked the music of Cashman and West and many of the other Lifesong artists (Henry Gross, Michael Mugrage (anyone remember him??), Crack the Sky, and of course, CashWest themselves). Am I right in guessing that they were really SOBs who screwed things up and screwed people over, or were they just bad businessmen who didn't know how to run a label?
